More Darwin News!

Yesterday, I wrote about Charles Darwin's 200th birthday, discussing the celebration in terms of the ongoing American kerfuffle about evolution v. creationism/intelligent design.

Today, my high school classmate Tripp Hudgins, who is now a Baptist pastor, posted a fantastic article to his Facebook page that he gleaned from the New Scientist magazine website. It is about the Roman Catholic Church's formal endorsement of evolution: Vatican backs Darwin, dumps creationism. [Go ahead and click link. It is a fantastic article, after all.]

After all I wrote yesterday, I don't feel that I really need to write a whole lot reflecting on it, but I wanted to point you to it.

Oh, and the picture at the top of this post was ripped off from Brandon Keim's blog at Wired Science, which has lots of great links, as well.

Thanks for the shout out, sir. It's an interesting read, no? I keep recalling DaVinci saying that Theology is the mother of all science. Some of us seem to have forgotten that little truism. It is not that theology trumps science, but that the questions of Why and How and Whom matter to all of us and various disciplines have grown out of the desire to answer these questions.

Good stuff.

Paul,
I first read about you in the UCC news a while back. As a fellow father, sailor, UCC pastor, (and sometimes thinker) I have come to admire your presence in the UCC. After reading your church blog I am even more impressed. It is rare to find a minister who is willing to tackle the larger intellectual issues of the age. Keep up the good work. I also enjoyed your Amistad blog. I have moved back to New England (Attleboro, MA) from Montana and would enjoy getting to know you. If you ever plan on cruising Narragansett Bay, shoot me an e-mail and perhaps we could raft up. My oldest boy is 12 my middle child 7 and my youngest (a girl) is 4. My e-mail is ruachwrights@msn.com
Peace,
Rev. F. Vernon Wright
